SL Gallery Series: Gruntled Gallery

Like many galleries in SL, Gruntled Gallery began as a space to showcase the art of its founder, Thomas Gruntled. Often seen as a tiny Doctor Who mouse, Thomas is a RL artist and photographer residing in Maine. The gallery originated as a studio space in Cetus Gallery District, then moved to a small studio in Avalon Town in late summer of 2oo8, where it has since expanded to its own parcel in the Avalon Art District.

In developing Gruntled Gallery, Thomas combined his love of nature with his interest in science and space, mixing in the fun of Science Fiction with plenty of Doctor Who and Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy references.

Recently the gallery began featuring a revolving selection of short term exhibits, with such artists as Fuschia Nightfire, Sachi Nozaki, Tricia Aferdita, Em Larsson, and the newest collection by Ally Aeon. Sprinkled among the assorted exhibit rooms are the works of Thomas himself and a handful of selected works of friends and prior exhibits.

The ground level is a fusion between nature and architecture, with art amongst the trees and blending into a more traditional gallery structure. The interior is warm and comfortable, decorated in an old world style.

Click on a teleporter and find yourself transported to a variety of unique environments, from the courtyard to the sky deck, to the Who Cafe and the sky lawn for a game of croquette. Or find yourself in the console room of Doctor Who’s TARDIS, where Thomas has created an assortment of buttons, levers and distractions. Step inside the TARDIS itself, created by Cheshyr Pontchartrain, and take it for a joy ride across the Avalon landscape.

Among all these fun distractions resides a eclectic assortment of fantasy, sci fi and visionary art, photography and nature. A visit to Gruntled Gallery is as much an adventure as it is an exploration of art and all that SL has to offer.
