Avalon Town Supports Architecture in Virtual Worlds

The management of Avalon Town would like to announce, as part of our semi-annual fundraising drive, our support of Virtual Museums Incorporated.

A non-profit organization (501(c)3), formerly known as Frank Lloyd Wright Virtual Museum, Virtual Museums Incorporated (VMI) has begun to renew their vision of representing architecture and design in Second Life. Avalon Town was the home of the event that ultimately led to the birth of this venture, and since then has taken great interest in its growth and development. We were among those devastated by the steps taken by the Foundation to dismantle all their hard work, and would like to do our part to help them rebuild and find their new vision.

On Wednesday, January 19th, we will kick off our fundraising with a live music concert in Avalon Town’s Harmony Cafe. The time will be announced, you can also watch for the event listings on Avalon Town’s website: http://avalontown.spruz.com

Through the end of January and into February, both VMI and the Avalon sims will be hosting various events to raise awareness of the organization, learn more about the future goals and help them fund their rebuilding. 100% of the funds donated throughout the month long event will go to VMI.

On February 13th from Noon to 3pm, we will have a grand finale event at VMI’s event venue, The Edge: a Red & White Ball in honor of Valentine’s Day. This formal event will feature both live and DJ music and an art auction generously provided by some of the best artists in Second Life. All proceeds from the auction will directly benefit Virtual Museums Incorporated.

If you would like to find out how to contribute, or if you would like to donate your own artwork to the art auction, you can contact Tricia Aferdita in world, or email: triciaaferdita@gmail.com

As events are scheduled you will be able to find them, and details, at http://avalontown.spruz.com/events.htm

Thank you in advance for your support of this organization.

Shirtless for Breast Cancer

I recently learned about a great project launched by the innovative people of the Steelhead Region called ‘Shirtless for Breast Cancer’…

October is recognized as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in the US, and this year it is celebrating its 25th anniversary. Last year was the inaugural year for the Shirtless for Breast Cancer fundraiser and the Calendars and Thinc Book, featuring photos submitted by Avatars kind enough to go tastefully topless for the cause, have raised more than L$22,000 for the nonprofit organization Breastancer.org.

Breastcancer.org is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing the most reliable, complete, and up-to-date information about breast cancer. All medical information on the organization’s web site and in their printed materials is carefully reviewed by a Professional Advisory Board consisting of over 60 practicing medical professionals from around the world. (http://www.breastcancer.org/about_us)

Avalon Gallery Owner, Photographer and Photojournalist PJ Trenton brought this worthy cause to our attention via the Avalon Ning. He shared a call for volunteers on behalf of his friends in Steelhead and already Avalon has taken to the challenge and run with it, with some of our most esteemed community members already turning in their contributions. (Including yours truly!)

Both male and female volunteers are needed, so uncover your assets and take a tasteful snapshot of yourself for a great cause! You may contact Annechen Lowey from within SL if you have any questions. Following, you will find the requirements for submission. Have fun, put a creative twist to it that represents who you are, your philosophy or your niche in SL… and don’t forget the sunscreen!

The shots not selected for the calendars will be included in the 2010 book, and your inclusion in either depends on the submission fitting the technical requirements:

1) Submissions should be 2048 x 2048 square FULL PERMISSIONS PNGs. These may be e-mailed to consulate.lackey@gmail.com

2) Please keep the composition TASTEFUL – Art, not smut, please.

3) No Minors. Diminutive adults, fine – but we wish to stay legal with this. Legal-age avatars only for values of the American legal system (18 years old or older), no exceptions, not even for time travellers.

4) Submissions are to be sent to Annechen Lowey BEFORE 1800 SLT on 1 September 2009.

LATE Submissions will not be considered.
