Avalon Town Supports Architecture in Virtual Worlds

The management of Avalon Town would like to announce, as part of our semi-annual fundraising drive, our support of Virtual Museums Incorporated.

A non-profit organization (501(c)3), formerly known as Frank Lloyd Wright Virtual Museum, Virtual Museums Incorporated (VMI) has begun to renew their vision of representing architecture and design in Second Life. Avalon Town was the home of the event that ultimately led to the birth of this venture, and since then has taken great interest in its growth and development. We were among those devastated by the steps taken by the Foundation to dismantle all their hard work, and would like to do our part to help them rebuild and find their new vision.

On Wednesday, January 19th, we will kick off our fundraising with a live music concert in Avalon Town’s Harmony Cafe. The time will be announced, you can also watch for the event listings on Avalon Town’s website: http://avalontown.spruz.com

Through the end of January and into February, both VMI and the Avalon sims will be hosting various events to raise awareness of the organization, learn more about the future goals and help them fund their rebuilding. 100% of the funds donated throughout the month long event will go to VMI.

On February 13th from Noon to 3pm, we will have a grand finale event at VMI’s event venue, The Edge: a Red & White Ball in honor of Valentine’s Day. This formal event will feature both live and DJ music and an art auction generously provided by some of the best artists in Second Life. All proceeds from the auction will directly benefit Virtual Museums Incorporated.

If you would like to find out how to contribute, or if you would like to donate your own artwork to the art auction, you can contact Tricia Aferdita in world, or email: triciaaferdita@gmail.com

As events are scheduled you will be able to find them, and details, at http://avalontown.spruz.com/events.htm

Thank you in advance for your support of this organization.

Metaverse Arts Episode V – BURN2 Special Edition

We’re celebrating opening day of BURN2 on Metaverse Arts today!

BURN2 - The Iconic Burn Statue

BURN2 is the Second Life counterpart to the Burning Man Festival held in the Nevada High Desert every year. From the Burning Man website: (www.burningman.com) “Burning Man is an annual experiment in temporary community dedicated to radical self-expression and radical self-reliance”

This annual counterpart to Burning Man was originally called Burning Life. This year it’s organization was taken over by the Burning Man team, and changes have been made in its scale and in its adherence to the message and the community ideal  of Burning Man.

Renamed BURN2 – this new, streamlined festival launches today at noon SLT. Metaverse Arts staff attended a press preview and came back with a cornucopia of photos from the festival site. Today at 2pm, we’ll meet up with two BURN2 staff members, Communications Manager Raven Haalan and DMV Department Lead Emcee Widget.

Learn a little more about the changes to the Burn and how it compares to previous years from Raven, then investigate with us the DMV, Department of Mutant Vehicles – a RL and SL Burn phenomenon – and learn about the fun, whimsical and creative Art Cars from Emcee.

All of this, plus we’ll highlight a few upcoming events and unveil this episodes featured gallery!

See you there!

Metaverse Arts Episode 3 Today at 2pm PDT

For our third episode of Metaverse Arts, we’re bringing you an interview with the incomparible Filthy Fluno. We’ll chat with Filthy about crossing the boundaries of ‘Real Life” and “Virtual Life” as a means of promoting art. Does it really work? Does it take a certain personality type? A flair for self-promotion? Is it wise for artists to choose not to reveal their real identities?

We’ll share with you a few upcoming events in the arts community, then a visit with Gwen Carillon. Gwen’s magical creations fill her own sims of Eostara and Elements in Design – and across the grid. The upcoming issue of Prim Perfect Magazine covers the fantasy realms of Second Life™ and for this episode of Metaverse Arts we’ll visit her latest creation in the fairy realm.

Finally we’ll wind up the program by revealing this episode’s featured gallery, photographed by PJ Trenton.

Seating will be open for the live filming of the show, first come first seated. The recording starts at approximately 2pm. http://slurl.com/secondlife/The%20Labyrinth/127/104/34

You can also watch it live on http://treet.tv/live

The Luminous Lens: Photo Abstractions by PJ Trenton

After a brief haitus, Tricia Aferdita Gallery is up and moving again!
I am excited to bring you an exhibit of the works of the amazing PJ Trenton. PJ is a well-known SL Photographer, a staff photographer for the Primgraph and Prim Perfect Magazines, Photographer for the Designing Worlds weekly program, graphic designer for The Quest for the Golden Prim graphic novel printed in Primgraph, and producer of an untold number of profile photos throughout Second Life.
All of his photography work has kept him off the gallery circuit for quite a while, so this is a long-awaited return to exhibiting for many fans of PJ’s work. For this exhibit he has mixed up a little something different for us; a collection of abstract images that push the limits of photography to create uniquely “painted” images from across the metaverse. Each of these photos is the result of camera angles and PJ’s insightful way of looking at the world around him, they are not manipulated in photoshop other than contrast adjustments, signature and framing.
The result is a vibrant, luminous collection that simply glows on the black walls of the gallery. Simply framed in photoshop, these works are all one prim and modifiable to fit into any SL home. Stop by Wednesday, March 3rd at 7pm SLT (PST) for an opening reception. Meet PJ and check out this beautiful exhibit. Music will be provided by DJ Sredni Eel.
