Avalon Town Supports Architecture in Virtual Worlds

The management of Avalon Town would like to announce, as part of our semi-annual fundraising drive, our support of Virtual Museums Incorporated.

A non-profit organization (501(c)3), formerly known as Frank Lloyd Wright Virtual Museum, Virtual Museums Incorporated (VMI) has begun to renew their vision of representing architecture and design in Second Life. Avalon Town was the home of the event that ultimately led to the birth of this venture, and since then has taken great interest in its growth and development. We were among those devastated by the steps taken by the Foundation to dismantle all their hard work, and would like to do our part to help them rebuild and find their new vision.

On Wednesday, January 19th, we will kick off our fundraising with a live music concert in Avalon Town’s Harmony Cafe. The time will be announced, you can also watch for the event listings on Avalon Town’s website: http://avalontown.spruz.com

Through the end of January and into February, both VMI and the Avalon sims will be hosting various events to raise awareness of the organization, learn more about the future goals and help them fund their rebuilding. 100% of the funds donated throughout the month long event will go to VMI.

On February 13th from Noon to 3pm, we will have a grand finale event at VMI’s event venue, The Edge: a Red & White Ball in honor of Valentine’s Day. This formal event will feature both live and DJ music and an art auction generously provided by some of the best artists in Second Life. All proceeds from the auction will directly benefit Virtual Museums Incorporated.

If you would like to find out how to contribute, or if you would like to donate your own artwork to the art auction, you can contact Tricia Aferdita in world, or email: triciaaferdita@gmail.com

As events are scheduled you will be able to find them, and details, at http://avalontown.spruz.com/events.htm

Thank you in advance for your support of this organization.

Harmony Cafe Reopening

Those of you who frequented Cetus Gallery District may remember a little cafe in the corner of the district called Harmony Cafe.

Harmony hummed along in the district for over a year, enjoying regular Friday night DJ music from Aron McBride, then Tarsis Korobase spinning music from his popular podcast Alternative Classix, along with live music from some of the best performers in Second Life.

Due to changes in the District, life, finances and all those fun things, Harmony took a little nap. Since then, both Tricia Aferdita and Ethan Westland, the Cafe’s proprietors, have moved on to new adventures, landing in the amazing collective of SIMS known as Avalon. The main commercial SIMS, Tabula rasa, Ars Lunga, and now Vade Mecum make up Avalon Town. In the newly developed section of Avalon Town on the Vade Mecum SIM, there just happened to be the perfect space to cozy Harmony Cafe into.

After much thought and discussion and pushing around of prims, Harmony Cafe was reborn. The space required a slightly more modern decor than the old site and along with the new decor, new signage was born. PJ Trenton fired up his magic graphics and soon there was a sparkling new Harmony Cafe Logo. (seen above)

Current plans for the Cafe include a Grand Opening on August 28th, featuring Srv4U Conacher (Tha Bluez Preacher), along with integrating the cafe into the events venues of Avalon Town (Joining spaces like Speaker’s Circle, the Sculpture Garden, the Lock/Party Pontoon and The Labyrinth Theater. Discussions regarding whether there will be a regular weekly DJ event are floating around the ethers now… we’ll keep you informed!

Ethan and Tricia invite you to stop in and check out the new space, join us for the Grand Opening and think of Harmony Cafe when you’re looking for somewhere to hang out and relax. They continue to encourage a warm, inviting atmosphere along with the vibrant, open and energetic aspects of the Avalon community. Stop in and visit, we know you’ll want to come back!

HARMONY CAFE
CETUS GALLERY DISTRICT

A popular hangout (if I do say so myself) in the Cetus Gallery District is the Harmony Cafe, located on the Cetus River Walk.

Opened in October 2007, the cafe has become a favorite place to sit and chat in front of the fire, relax at a table and sip espresso or hot cocoa with a friend or spend an evening dancing to live performers and DJs.

Harmony has hosted live music performances from fantastic performers like Louis/Luigi Volare, CraigLyons Writer, Noma Falta, Nance Brody and more.

Every Friday night, join Harmony and DJ Tarsis Korobase for Alternative Classix Live. Tarsis hosts an alternative rock podcast (it can be found at http://www.alternativeclassix.com) and on Fridays he brings it to SL live via the Harmony Cafe. Stop in and dance to alternative rock hits from the 80’s and early 90’s!

Not forgetting that the Cafe is in an art district, I have incorporated artwork into the decor. It started as an eclectic mix of work from artists around SL, but I am currently featuring the art work of Schmonson Dalglish there (along with the work displayed at Tricia Aferdita Gallery). Next month, I will feature Cetus’ own Em Larsson, owner of Gallery M and a few of her fabulous photos.

While you’re in Second Life, take the time to stop in and have a cup of coffee or stay for a while and party with us. Our gatherings are filled with fun and laughter!
